Why we need change
The New York Times reported analysis by Oxfam showing that the unpaid work done by women globally, if paid at minimum wage, would be worth $10.8 trillion last year. That makes women’s unpaid work the fourth largest economy in the world! This is work that isn’t recognised by our society, but also isn’t valued enough at a household level. Responsibility for this work is also a major driver of mental load.
Equality Starts At Home (ESAH) is a UK registered charity with a mission to change mindsets and make equality at home a reality for all. This is all the more urgent now in our post COVID-19 world where women are being propelled backwards – and we want to reverse that. ESAH works to empower grassroots change at a household level, by challenging and championing individual behaviour change, supporting policy and cultural change in workplaces, and by campaigning to influence change at a government and societal level.
