Equality Starts At Home

Helping Organisations support equality at home & at work

The Problem for Organisations

We no longer live in the 1950s world where women stay at home and many households live comfortably on a single income.

Only 22% of households have a single male breadwinner, and two worker households are now overwhelmingly the norm (73%) (ONS).

But workplaces have been slow to adapt to the realities of two-income households and how this impacts careers and what we need in the workplace – especially for working parents.

For organisations, this impacts productivity, revenue, leadership, recruitment and talent-retention. But with the right help, it doesn’t have to.

ESAH is a charity that helps organisations face this challenge.

How the problem impacts the workplace

While there is pressure on government to do more to support parents at work, it’s workplaces themselves that have the most power to create change for their employees.

  • 56 percent of working parents report difficulty balancing work and family (60 percent of mothers and 52 percent of fathers) (Pew).
  • Research by the British Chambers of Commerce found that two-thirds of UK women say childcare duties affected their career progression.
  • The UK Department for Education’s childcare and early years survey of parents found that about half would prefer to do some paid work if childcare were more affordable.

Workplace Events

ESAH works with organisations to help create more inclusive workplaces that support work-life balance for parents, reduce discrimination and get the most out of your team.

How do we do this?

ESAH conducts events tailored to the needs of your workplace to create an open, facilitated environment in which to discuss this problem and how it interacts with work.

Starting with a focus on understanding the problem in your own home, we raise awareness and understanding across your team.

This helps managers, employees and executives to better communicate, plan for and create a culture that recognises the realities of workers lives – that don’t end when they leave the office or log off for the day.
